Achensee Rack railway locomotives

Since 1889, the oldest rack railway locomotives in the world connect Jenbach with the Achensee lake. The 7 km long line has a maximum gradient of 1:62 and trains take just 45 minutes to reach the pier at Seespitz. Whistling, stamping, snarling and hissing...No, it´s not a dragon - although one would have fit into the wildly romantic landscapes well - it´s one of the three locomotives of the Achensee Railway with their 180 horsepower. A trip like this is not easily forgotten and it´s a special treat for steam railway enthusiasts, given that this is one of the oldest rack railways in europe that is exclusively steam-powered.
