Europe’s highest altitude publicly accessible cave
The Spannagel Cave at the Hintertux Glacier is the only marble cave in the Central Alps and a particularly worthwhile destination for families with children. With the measured length of about 12.5 km, the Spannagelhöhle is considered the largest rock cave in the Central Alps, of which about 500 meters can be visited near the entrance during the show cave tour. Learn from the cave guides during a guided tour everything you need to know about the history, age, hydrology watercourses, cave climate and animal life of this special cave and marvel at the marble layering, dripstones, crystals, erosion cauldrons as well as bone finds. The family-friendly natural monument Spannagelhöhle is ideal to visit even in bad weather and is thus a varied excursion destination in Tyrol Austria!
Meeting point: Spannagelhaus (ascent with the gondola to the Tuxer Fernerhaus at 2,660m, 10 minutes walk to the Spannagel Cave at the Spannagelhaus).
