Europe’s highest altitude publicly accessible cave
The cave at the Spannagelhaus (short Spannagelhöhle), is the largest marble (rock) cave in the Central Alps, is open all year and explorable as part of a guided tour. Learn more about the history, age, hydrology streams, cave climate and animal life of this particular cave from the Cave Guides, and marvel at the marble stratification, stalactites, crystals, erosion cauldrons and bone finds. Important: Please pay attention to the correct clothing (solid clothes and shoes)
June 1st to July 9th and Sep. 10th to Oct. 14th: Daily hourly guided tours from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
July 10th to Sep. 19th 2020: daily hourly guided tours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Dogs are not allowed in the cave.
The entry to the Spannagel cave is directly in front of the Spannagelahaus and around 5 walking minutes away from Tuxer Fernerhaus, which you can reach with Gletscherbus 1 and 2.
On request, extensive tours of several hours (ca. 2.5 - 3 hrs) are available, where cave trekkers are taken even deeper into the complex cave system under the Hintertux Glacier. The level of difficulty is comparable to a category B via ferrata.
Experience cave courses, which are otherwise only accessible to cave guides. Pass stalagmites, marble, sintering, crystals ... a special experience for brave adventurers.
